Hello everyone
l am a new member and want to ask is it cost affective to buy cigars from online shop in US? l am a frustrated cigar smoker because the cigars that l enjoy are becoming rare as hens teeth in Australia. l enjoy a CAO and cannot get them from any of my normal suppliers in Melbourne. Maybe l need more suppliers but l only really know of two main retailers in Melbourne.
l need help to work out if it will be cost affective to buy OS. l have seen some CAO by the box for $200.00 US and here they are $600.00 can it be cheaper.
Please let me know your thought
Love the site

Hi Stephen,
It can be very cost effective to buy from the US if you don't get taxed. When you do it does still turn out cheaper.
However there is a drawback. You have to wait quite long for shipping (during which time who knows what RH and temps it goes through) and sometimes postage can cost quite a bit.
Take a look at this thread for more info:

Also, if your in Melb you should join us for our monthly herfs :).
Thanks Matthew
let me know when the next monthly herf is and l will arrange to come down. l used to smoke at Baranows but now l smoke at home. would be nice to get together with people who enjoy a good stoge and drink.
l find that all the CAO brands are not coming to Australia any news on that

As far as CAO in Australia is concerned, I have no idea.
I have ordered several different CAOs from US - all great, and no issues. CAOs are a good cigar.
Your right about costing cheaper from US even if taxed.
I too no nothing about Australian suplies of CAOs.
Tried Baranows? They have them in stock.
Baranows in Hawthorn carry CAO ( or have in the past, I have not been there for a while ) but the range is limited.
I would rather get mine from the US anyway.
I usually have my cigars shipped to a fellow BOTL in the US, he shrink wraps (or gallon size ziplock) the box with a small Boveda, then ships to me. Normal USPS shipping is about $20, but with tracking, it's $30-$45.
I've had boxes arrive in 7 days and have also waited up to 41 days for others. Both times, they arrived perfectly and ready to smoke (but they rested for 2 weeks anyway).
Hit and miss 50% gets hit with duites, but at the end of the day, it's cheaper. No love lost for local retailers. It' not their fault their prices are unacceptable (to me).
