Hi guys, would like to introduce myself. I am a cigar newbie from Darwin, I have recently only entered the world of cigar smoking after an overseas trip. I have been smoking now for about 4 months and have really only smoked Cubans. I have also recently purchased my first Humidor which is a 400ct Humidor. Its up and running at about 65% percent and my cigars are smoking very well.
It is good to see an Australian cigar forum as I am having extreme difficulty purchasing cigar paraphanalia, there is nothing here in Darwin but I am even having difficulty inter-state. I am looking for some gell pads to buy without having to go o/s to get them can anyone point me in the right direction to buy some gell pads for my humidor.
Any ways hope to learn alot from the cigar Afficianado's on this site.
Regards Steve

Permalink Reply by Stephen Logan on December 15, 2011 at 3:05pm Hi Stephen,
We do also have the Boveda Gel Packs at 68% and 72% which we use for our overseas orders. We don't have them available on the website at this stage as they only last about 90 days before needing to be replaced, hence the reason Cameron offered our humidifier to you. If you are set on the gel packs, we do have them in stock, but as I say, they are only available in 68% or 72% from the manufacturer.
Let me know if we can be of any further assistance.
Cheers,
Jason Nelson
Permalink Reply by Stephen Logan on December 17, 2011 at 3:39pm Jason thanks for your reply, I am new to the world of cigars and here is my opinion, I am not sure if it is accurate but here goes. I live in Darwin and at the moment we have quite a high humidity up to 90% as we are in the build up / wet season. Now prior to the humidor I just kept my sticks in their boxes although they were not sitting around for to long. They smoked very poorly as you can imagine as I think the tobacco was to wet. A very hard draw on most. Once I got the sticks in the humidor they are smoking magnificently, although if I take one with me when going to dinner it does not take long to absorb the RH. So I have my Humidor at 60% this is giving me what I believe is the best smoke for my temperate. What do you think. This is the reason I would like to stick with the square gel pads that fit into my humidifiers. I have to in the humidor as it is a 400ct with approx 200 cigars in there.
I am keen to hear what you think.
regards
Steve

Noticed you have settled into enjoying the holidays, what kind of scotch are you drinking single malt I hope, and what sticks did you have saved. I have some RYJ Belicosos on the way, as well as some Upmann Sir Winston's they should be very close to. Have a great holiday mate.
Permalink Reply by Shaun Ware on December 17, 2011 at 4:53pm Single Malt, definately mate. As for sticks I am thiking about a AF work of art maduro and a Padron 64 Maduro, or a Tatuaje westside.
Have a good xmas mate ; )

I've been into cigars only for a few years and I have not found a better product than Boveda.
There's no other product that is as accurate and reliable. The % label on the pack is the only thing you need to worry about. Choose the % you're happy with, throw it in the humidor and that's it. You can even do away with your hygrometer because I guarantee that the %RH will be within 1% of the advertised level (don't get rid of your hygro). A hygro that you can calibrate is also important.
The Boveda is so accurate that you can calibrate your hygro with it. Put them both in a zip lock for 24h and hey presto, the %RH in the bag will be the % on the Boveda label. Not just set your hygro to the same %.
It's cheap from places like Amazon, but if you want to try it out, I have a couple of new 65% laying around doing nothing.
I have a couple of cigar bombs heading out on Wednesday so PM me your home address and I'll get these in the mail to you.

Permalink Reply by Hasan Sheriff on December 27, 2011 at 1:11pm I have heard only of a couple of bombs landing in AU on another forum, but I'm a member of BOTL.org where it happens on a regular basis. Sometimes I bomb, sometimes I get bombed.
The packages going out on Wednesday are for the winners of a contest I held.
Where abouts are you, Shaun? I'm in Parramatta, Sydney.
