Hello to all !
I've been doing a bit of research over the last few days and have a few questions I wanted to pose to the membership.
1) Has anyone purchased a Humidor from Cheap Humidors at all? They look OK, but I'm wondering if there are any horror or success stories that exist. Any expect times on delivery etc? Quality of their products in general etc.
2) Does a Humidor purchased Internationally attract any kind of extra charge from either Customs or Quarantine because it is a wood item (ie: it may need fumigation etc) ??
3) I also see that this site is affiliated with Perdomo Cigars. I'm interested in it greatly, but am worried the size is too small as a first Humidor even though it has some fine looking cigars inside. As a bloke with a small family on a budget (aren't we all !) would this be the port of first call, with a view to 'upgrading' in the future, or do I purchase a larger (25-50 - all the size I think I'll need) humidor straight away. It's a little chicken vs. egg I know. Just looking for a direction to head towards.
There are more questions to come I'm sure ! In the meantime, thanks for answering what you can.

Hi SJ,
Great questions to start with. Firstly, any importation from OS may be subjected to fumigation unless you obtain certificate from the sender advising that the product has already been treated. Most treated products won't need to be fumigated.
The humidor we have on the left hand side of this forum is, as stated, simply a starter. It is a finely crafted cigar box that will comfortably hold 10 - 15 sticks along with the hygrometer and humidfier and should been seen as a starter or for a basic cigar enthusiast that is not going to hold much stock themselves. We do howeveer, have an order on the water of larger humidors due to us in about 3 weeks. These will range from 40 stick humidors upto 150 sticks in capacity. They will be very well priced and shipped overnight when ordered. Our pricing at this stage looks to be really good too with a 50 stick humidor for under $120.
Hope this helps,

You'll be happy to know that I've joined your site today and placed my first order as well. I've ordered the Starter Pack and also purchased one of your fine looking gold cutters as well. The free shipping for orders over $150 was a great bonus as well at checkout. Hopefully I'll receive them ready for the weekend, if not, then next week will do !
I'll see how I go with the small humidor for the moment, and I'll keep my eyes peeled for your new range in the future and if all goes well, I'll update if I need to.
Thanks very much for your information and your quick response as well.

Permalink Reply by Jonathan Woods on November 15, 2011 at 7:09pm Hi SJ,
I bought my 1000 count cabinet humidor from cheaphumidors.com earlier this year. I have no issue with it, or them... In fact, I'd highly recommend them to anyone. It did take around a month to arrive, but considering it's size I think that's pretty reasonable. The postage price for such a large unit was also very good, plus it arrived well packed and undamaged (via FedEx). All their humidors are manufactured in China but hey, what isn't these days, right?
I also have a mate who bought a 150 count desktop humi from them - he was also very happy with everything (his being a smaller unit arrived within 10 days).
Re: customs. No drama. Spanish cedar is classified as a treated material (see customs website), so no need to stress on that - it will go straight through, unopened.
Hope this helps.

Permalink Reply by Matthew Tan on November 15, 2011 at 7:13pm I don't use cheaphumidors personally, but I know a couple of people that do.
Shipping time can vary, but that's going to be a problem with anything bought from overseas.
So far, the people I know that have used cheap humidors have been satisfied with them, and have received everything they've bought from them.
A cheap alternative, although ugly, is to use a cooler.
If you look up coolerdor in google there's heaps of info about it.
The basic idea is that you get an airtight cooler, put some humidification media in it, and store your cigars there.
You could also get some empty cigar boxes (I'm sure if you ask your local cigar specialist they'll give/sell some to you) and keep your single cigars in boxes inside the cooler.

I'm greatfull to you all for your comments, info and advice. I've checked out cheaphumidors.com a little more, and they seem OK for a Cigar rookie to look into. I think I'll wait and see the price and and look of the Perdomo humidors when they come online and see how the comparison goes.
The coolidor looks like a great idea as well. I suppose when you get to that stage when your collection grows to that size something of that size it would come in handy. I'm not too sure if its for me at this point, but its great information anyway for future reference.
Thanks again for all your advice and answers as well !
