I got a bunch of siglo I and monte 5's the other day as handy small cigars for friends and a cheap (ish) option for when I am being a bit half arsed.
Normally I leave cigars to sit for a while before smoking them (although I will nick one to try on the first day). For these I figured they weren't anything super special and letting them sit probably wouldn't make a world of difference. So after maybe 2 weeks of sitting in the humidor I had one of the 5's this morning.
Blew my cotton picking socks off. I was having a flat white at the time (medium roast bean, little bit of sugar) and the flavours of the two just seemed to bounce backwards and forwards in perfect harmony. There was a good 15 minutes where I stopped working and just smoked and sipped. Coffee in the cigar, cigar in the coffee. Not complex and changing or requiring thought or attention.
Could have been just one of those flukes in time where everything comes together but I have high hopes of that happening again. At $4 a cigar probably the best value 15 minutes I have had in ages.
Anyone else have anything completely out of the blue like that?
Also if anyone is a fan of the monte 5 what others in the monte range would they recommend? I have tried the 5 and the Eddy LE2010 (which was nice but hasn't pushed its way into regular rotation).

Like you, I thought it was a fantastic smoke.
I've had a couple of No.4's and would probably go the No.5 over the No.4.
Had a 10 pack of No.2's which I've had about 7 out of and 2 were fantastic, 4 were okay, and 1 was pretty forgettable.
Maybe try the Petit Edmundo. My experience with them has been good, and I've preferred them over the edmundo (but I have had more petit's than standard edmundo's.

Permalink Reply by Adam S on December 9, 2011 at 9:02pm Hi Simon,
I've also been on the small cigar kick of late (everyone's so busy this time of year) and hitting up some coronas. I usually smoke Partagas Shorts/Trindad Reyes and love em (but run out) but at cup of joe o'clock this a.m. had a Tatuaje Verocu No. 5, a 4 inch firecracker.
Just bought some Man o War Puro Authentico Coronas and fingers crossed they're as good as people say.
