Nicholas Wallace replied to Petros, G's discussion What would you do if smoking (cigars) was completely banned in Australia?
"I'll head back to Thailand sooner instead of in a few years time. lol  However I doubt that cigar smoking will ever be banned.  Just the tabacco tax will start going through the roof! :O"

Nicholas Wallace replied to Petros, G's discussion What colour leaf do you prefer?
"I prefer a maduro due to the sweetness and earthy flavors.  The first maduro I tried gave me tastes of chocolate, black cherry and roasted almonds.  It was such an enjoyable smoke I couldn't put the cigar down despite the ash coming…"

Nicholas Wallace replied to Joshua B's discussion What are you smoking today?
"What can I say about the cigar I just tried except it rocks!  Another winner from Perdomo.  I posted a review on their website.  Beautiful aroma, fine taste and a smooth even draw. 5 stars :)"

"Hi Hasan,   Thanks again for the advice.  For some reason my humidor has a low temperature but a high humidity which is unusual.  Maybe the hygrometer needs recalibration or sent back to Xikar due to it's lifetime warranty. …"

"Thanks for the reply Hasan.  I'll give that kit a go as the Xikar digital hygrometer may be out of wack. Cheers."

"Hey Josh, It's alright is that's all you have available. The Boveda is quite cheap, but hard to get in Australia. Lots of sellers on Amazon will ship here at a reasonable price. While getting this, he might as well get some Boveda packs…"

"Hasan,   The salt test is actually very reliable and the only downside is that it can be corrosive to hygrometers, particularly digital ones. I would also recommend the Bodeva calibration kit if it is within means.    "

"Forget the salt test. It's as reliable as counting road markers per second to guess your speed as you drive past a speed camera. Get yourself a digital hygro and Bodeva calibrating kit from…"

"Nicholas,   What humidity do you prefer? I have found that a combination of beads (HCM or Heartfelt) and Bodeva humidity packs maintain the perfect humidity.   Don't forget that the higher temps you have, the higher your humidity will…"

"Hi Josh, Many thanks for the reply.  Using the salt test, I pushed the calibrate button when it reached 75% humidity inside the zip-lock bag.  But I may re-calibrate the hygrometer as it took more than 20 hours for it to reach the 75%…"

"At 9am this morning the relative humidity was 92% outside so that might be causing you some problems. In any case, I would move your humidor to a dark cupboard or part of your house.   I just noticed your hygrometer appears to be 5% off…"

Humidor has 75-77% humidity :|

Hello fellow aficionados, I'm having an issue with my humidor.  When the piece of art arrived, I seasoned it correctly and installed a Xikar hygrometer as well as a Xikar humidification unit that uses PG solution.  A couple of weeks ago the humidity was 70% after calibrating the Xikar hygrometer using the salt method.  When I added a bundle of cigars to the humidor the humidity was still at 70% for a week or so. In the past few days the humidity is averaging 75-78% and the cigars look a little…See More

"Hi Petros,   I like your idea.  To be honest, I don't see many cigar aficianados around Melbourne but see plenty of people filling their lungs with cigarette smoke which is worrying as I dislike the smell of cigarettes as it can leave…"

Nicholas Wallace replied to Mark Huxley's discussion Import duty and tax amounts?
"Thanks for the reply.  Ordering from overseas is cheaper however you run the risk of the cigars sitting with customs in an environment that is below 70% humidity thus ruining the flavor of the cigars. "
